Avelia plays melodic, eclectic music featuring cool jazz sounds with hints of Latin, soca, South African and classical music, providing a variety of sounds using trumpet, flugelhorn and voice.
Since having children Avelia co-wrote, and performed in, the 2-woman show “Ifs, Buts & Babies” (sharing the Delights, Dilemmas & Disasters!). Now those babies are significantly older, Avelia continues to write and play her own music, alongside covers, mostly as a solo act (using backing tracks), or as a duo with pianist.
In her life BC (before children), following study at the Royal Academy of Music, Avelia’s work as a professional trumpet player included gigs, TV, radio, recording, and UK & international tours with artists such as Marti Webb & Jane MacDonald; and playing in the bands of many West End shows (including Jolson, Calamity Jane, Cats). She also performed under her own name playing classical concerts with her brother, Alvin Moisey; jazz gigs with Bruce Boardman; and her jazz fusion band - No Problem
